Description

This was for a University project. We had to do an illustration to go along with a newspaper article. (Gregor revisited, by Nadine Gordimer, the Guardian newspaper - found here)The article was about a woman who found a roach trapped in her typewriter. She had been reading Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis; about a man who had turned into a giant insect. The woman felt that maybe she had willed the roach into existence. I based the picture on the following quote; 'Is there another kind of metamorphosis, you don't wake up to find yourself transformed into another species ... but the imagining of such a being can create one ... can imagination summon such a live being to come on out of the woodwork and manifest itself?' I Spent many an hour just sat there drawing roaches for the research sheets *shudders* never again. (April 2005)

kafka.... must complicated guy

really interesting (there are things and beings I wouldn't mind to will into existence)

I wonder how would it feel the other way around- in kafka's metamorfosis -I mean.... being an insect (mindless life) and suddenly waking up being a human being.... THAT must be really scary..

concerning the pic I am really impressed with all those 'lil sketchy details on the shadowings... and the roach is very accurate as far I remember them... (hey this is the third pic featuring a roach I 've commented on tonight.... will roaches take over the world? lol)
