Jumping Jack

Description

In hindsight, the manager of the cafe decided that maybe hiring robots to replace his human waiters was not such a good idea. He had hoped that they would be faster and more efficient than their human counterparts, which, to an extent, they were.

They were fast, but although their ability to jump high and far meant they could get around the Cafe quickly they had a terrible habit of crashing into the low ceiling.

They never made errors with the orders unlike the human staff, but despite their excellence at matching orders to the correct tables they had an awful habit of leaving a trail of crumbs and spilt tea in their wake. When the food and drink arrived, there was usually only half of it left.

The manager had expected to save money and time because his robot waiters would not require lunch hours like the humans did, but the manager was mortified to learn that every five hours the robots needed to change their oil and fill up on expensive petrol - this took an hour - what the manager saved on wages he lost on petrol.

So the human staff were hired back and the robots were given a job that they were better suited for. They were far more adept at home deliveries and got the products to the customer's houses in record time. (but the damage to nearby trees and bridges was a big problem)

The manager learnt very quickly that sending a robot away with a lovely, hot cup of tea would result in tea splattered paths, trees, and passersby while the customer would receive only an empty cup. From then on, the cups had tightly sealed lids. So long as the food and drink was well packaged it arrived in an acceptable state.

The manager stuck with it and despite the problems he was pleased and relieved to find that home delivery sales tripled thanks to the leaping waiters.

After all, who wouldn't want to have their food delivered by robot?
